We make personalized products from images our customers upload. That makes copyright a serious matter for us, and this page explains how we handle it.
What you may upload
Only images you have the right to use. In practice that means:
- ✅ A photo you took yourself of your own pet.
- ✅ A photo you have written permission from the photographer to use.
- ✅ A photo of a person who has agreed to appear on a printed product.
What you may not upload:
- ❌ Photographs taken by someone else without their permission — including images found through a search engine, social media or a stock photo site.
- ❌ Logos, brand names, team badges, or any registered trademark.
- ❌ Characters from films, television, games, comics or books — including “in the style of” a protected character.
- ❌ Celebrities or public figures, whose name and likeness are protected.
- ❌ Artwork or illustrations created by another artist.
- ❌ Content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, or that depicts a real person in a degrading way.
A professional photograph of your own pet still belongs to the photographer, not to you, unless they transferred the rights. This catches people out more often than anything else on this list.
What happens if you upload something you shouldn’t
We review orders before printing. If we believe an image infringes someone’s rights, we will cancel the order and refund you in full. We may decline future orders from accounts that repeat this.
By placing an order you confirm you hold the necessary rights and you agree to hold us harmless from any claim arising from the content you supplied — as set out in our Terms of Service.
Our own designs
The designs, illustrations, clipart, photographs, layouts and text on this Site belong to us or to the artists and libraries that license them to us.
When you buy a product, you are buying that physical item. You do not acquire the underlying artwork, and you may not reproduce, resell or redistribute our designs, or use them to produce items yourself or through another manufacturer.
AI-generated artwork
Some products convert your photograph into an illustration using an artificial intelligence image service.
Please be aware that, under current United States Copyright Office practice, purely AI-generated images are not eligible for copyright protection, because copyright requires human authorship. We tell you this so you know what you are — and are not — acquiring: you receive the physical product and the right to use the resulting artwork for your own personal purposes. Neither party gains an enforceable copyright over an image produced solely by the AI.
Your original photograph remains yours. Producing the artwork does not transfer any rights in it to us beyond what is needed to fulfil your order.
If you believe we have infringed your rights
If you own a copyright and believe material on this Site or on a product infringes it, write to info@personalizedcat.com with:
- Your name, address, telephone number and email.
- A description of the work you say has been infringed.
- The URL or a description precise enough for us to locate the material.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We respond to valid notices promptly, and we remove or disable access to infringing material. We also terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
If you believe material was removed by mistake, you may send a counter-notification to the same address with equivalent detail.
